What is Spider Works?
Spider Works is the company name we have chosen for doing business as.
Quilterslittlehelper
is merely the name of the website you log on to so that you can view our patterns and thimbles.
The name Spider Works came about because I had the nickname Spider in high
school.
It all started when, as a freshman,
I went out for the football team. Well, I was tall and had real skinny legs
(still do!) so the rest of the team
called me "spider legs", then "Spiderman", then just "Spider". After four years
of football the name stuck so well that 30 years later my siblings still
call me Spider. I'm known as Uncle Spider to their kids.
The company was actually started when I developed an automatic bicycle
transmission
(US patent #5582555). It was called Spider Drive because it had eight movable
arms protruding
from the center hub.
The "Works" term was added to the name just because it sounds cool (Delphine
actually gets the
credit). It seems that companies with that term in their names are up to all
kinds of work. The same goes for me. First it was bicycle transmissions,
then thimbles, and who knows what's next.
The Logo
I'm really proud of the elegant simplicity of my logo. The web itself is the natural symbol for the Spider. The center of the web is in the shape of a gear - the universal symbol for a mechanical engineer (which I am). It signifies the term "Works" in the company name.
